 over Internet protocol services.

Voice over Internet Protocol Services:

Voice over Internet Protocol services convert your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone number, the signal is converted to a regular (analog) telephone signal before it reaches the destination.

This technology allows you to make calls directly from a computer (Soft Phone), a special IP phone, or a traditional phone connected to a Voice over IP analog telephone adapter (Linksys SPA2102, PAP2). It’s said that VoIP is “portable” basically because it is possible to make and receive calls from anywhere in the world as long as a high speed internet connection such as DSL, Cable, Satellite, Wireless or any other is available.

Characteristics and Functionality:

VoIP offers many characteristics and functionalities that make it easier and cheaper to implement than traditional phone networks, for example:

Easy to implement: This technology has the ability to transmit more than one telephone call down the same broadband-connected telephone line.

Economical: Since voice conversations are routed over the Internet or any other IP based network it is usually easy to add an extra telephone line to a home or office, additionally All PSTN features that are usually charged for or may be unavailable in some areas such as caller ID, call forwarding, are included at no additional cost.

Portable: Incoming phone calls can be automatically routed to your VoIP phone, regardless of where you are connected to the network. Take your VoIP phone with you on a trip, and wherever you connect to the Internet, you can receive incoming calls.

Interoperable: VoIP networks can integrate with other services available over the Internet, including video conferencing, message or data file exchange, IPTV, etc.
